Dry-type transformer casing

Dry-type transformer casing

The transformer casing is mainly used for providing safety protection at the site of the transformer operation. It prevents potential accidents caused by foreign objects such as small animals entering the transformer. It can effectively protect human safety and also play a certain role in electromagnetic shielding.

Classification of Structural Materials According to the different structural materials, they are classified into three major categories: aluminum alloy engraved plate transformer casing, stainless steel transformer casing, and steel plate spray-painted transformer casing.

Classification of Usage Scenarios Depending on the application scenario: there are two types - indoor transformer casings and outdoor transformer casings.

Classification of Protection Grades The protection grades are divided into several types: IP20, IP21, IP23, IP30, IP31, IP33, etc. Classification and description of protection grades for transformer enclosures IP20 can prevent spherical foreign objects with a diameter larger than 12.5mm from entering, providing a safety barrier for the energized parts. IP21 has the same performance as IP20, while also preventing vertical water droplets from entering. IP23 has the performance of IP20, and at the same time, it can prevent water from entering within a 60° angle range from the vertical line. The IP30 model can prevent spherical foreign objects with a diameter larger than 2.5mm from entering. IP31 has the same performance as IP30, while also preventing vertical water droplets from entering. IP33 has the same performance as IP30, and at the same time, it can prevent water from entering within a 60° angle range from vertical lines. The IP40 model can prevent linear objects with a diameter larger than 1mm from entering and has a dust-proof function.

Reasons for Grounding the Transformer Shell To ensure personal safety, the transformer casing must be grounded. Grounding the casing is mainly for protection purposes and is an important measure to ensure personal safety. When the insulation in the transformer's interior or other parts is damaged, the casing will become electrified, and an electric shock accident to personnel may occur. If a grounding device is installed, the leakage current will flow through the transformer casing and the grounding device into the ground, avoiding an electric shock accident to personnel. Especially for temporarily installed transformers, more attention should be paid.
